Informational Meeting
3:00 pm - Friday, August 28, 2009
Description
Volunteers help in all aspects of our research. Our volunteer program runs on an “up front investment”. The more time and energy you spend with us, demonstrating a desire to work and learn, the more time and energy we will re-invest in you. Some examples of the work include treadmilling, underwater treadmilling, handwalking, administering treatments, and surgery. Volunteers are able to participate in all activities up to the skill level that we feel you are capable. Training and supervision are provided during each task, allowing everyone the opportunity to increase their abilities. Many of our volunteers have gone on to become student technical employees with us.
Applicants
The Orthopaedic Research Center (ORC) has a competitive volunteer program. Each semester five positions are available to the most qualified applicants. An informational meeting and interviews are held at the end of each semester for the upcoming term. The candidates that we are looking for are extremely well rounded. We use the scholar, athlete, leader mentality.
Scholar: Demonstrates a solid base of education necessary to be successful.
Athlete: Demonstrates an ability to work with others and physical endurance to work with horses and endure long days.
Leader: Demonstrates the ability to take charge and work with limited guidance.
Volunteers will be evaluated throughout the semester and the end will be either asked to stay on for the next semester or offered the opportunity to re-interview. Applications are only available at the informational meeting. Please bring a resume and current course schedule to interviews.
